Hva betyr feilkoden?
The engine control module (ECM) counts the pulses from the engine speed sensor, which reads the magnetic poles on a magnetic wheel on the crankshaft, and uses the signal to find when the pistons are at top dead centre. If the pulses become abnormal, or the control module cannot find the reference position, the fault is set. It is checked while the engine turns, and the car may then crank without starting.
Mulige årsaker
- Contact resistance in the connections
- Open circuit or short to ground or voltage in the signal wire
- Open circuit or short in the ground wire or power supply wire
- Incorrectly fitted engine speed (RPM) sensor
- Defective or damaged engine speed (RPM) sensor
- Damaged magnetic wheel
Hva du kan gjøre
- 1If you have a diagnostic tool, check in live data whether the engine speed appears while the starter motor cranks the engine
- 2Switch off the ignition and check the connectors to the control module and the sensor for contact resistance and oxidation
- 3Check that the sensor is correctly fitted and is not damaged or dirty
- 4Use a multimeter to check that the power, signal and ground wires to the sensor have no open circuit and no short to ground or voltage
- 5If no fault is found in the wiring, the sensor is the likely cause. Have a workshop confirm this and replace it if needed
Symptomer du kan merke2
- The malfunction indicator lamp (MIL) is lit
- The engine cranks but does not start
