The engine control module (ECM) has detected that communication with the transmission control module (TCM) over the CAN network is not working. CAN is the shared network through which the control modules exchange information. When the signal does not get through, the engine management lacks data from the transmission, and the code is stored in the ECM.
Mulige årsaker
- Open circuit on one of the CAN cables
- Short circuit between the CAN cables
- Internal fault in another control module on the same part of the CAN network
Hva du kan gjøre
- 1Read the codes in both the engine and transmission control modules and note whether any other module also has a communication fault
- 2Check that the connectors to the engine and transmission control modules are firmly seated and free from corrosion
- 3Use a multimeter to check that the CAN cables have no break and are not shorted to each other or to ground
- 4If you have a diagnostic tool: check that the transmission control module responds and appears in the list of control modules
- 5If none of this finds the cause: have a workshop with diagnostic equipment establish which control module on the CAN network is disturbing communication
