P0234 - Turbocharger/Supercharger "A" Overboost Condition

Technical Description
The ECM detects manifold boost pressure exceeding target values by more than 200-400 mbar for an extended duration (> 2-3 seconds). To prevent catastrophic engine and turbo damage, the ECM activates Limp Mode and disables boost.

Symptoms
Recommended Solution
Connect handheld vacuum pump (Mityvac) to turbo actuator; linkage arm must travel 10-15 mm smoothly without binding.
Test N75 boost solenoid resistance and run output actuator test with scan tool.
Clean carbon deposits from VNT mechanism or replace turbocharger assembly.
Mechanic's Tip
Classic VNT symptom on diesel engines: Car pulls hard in 1st/2nd gear, but cuts power and goes into Limp Mode in 4th/5th gear under sustained uphill load at 2500 RPM because the stuck vanes cannot dump excess exhaust volume in time.
