CEM checks the tailgate lock motor through a directly connected wire. If the control unit registers that the supply wire to the lock motor is broken or short-circuited to voltage, the fault code is set and the tailgate cannot be locked or unlocked.

1With the ignition off, check the wire to the tailgate lock motor for chafing, pinching and loose connections
2Check the connector at the tailgate lock motor for corrosion and loose connections
3Use a multimeter to check that the supply wire has no break and no contact with voltage
4Remedy what is found and then clear the fault code
