Technical Description
OBD-II error code P0025 is set when the Engine Control Unit (ECU) detects that the exhaust camshaft timing for Bank 2 is more retarded than the commanded setpoint. The Variable Valve Timing (VVT) system adjusts camshaft phasing using engine oil pressure controlled by a solenoid valve. If the camshaft fails to reach the target position or remains in a retarded state, the ECU triggers this code. Operation relies on PWM (Pulse Width Modulation) signals to regulate oil flow to the camshaft phaser, impacting torque delivery and NOx emissions.
Possible Causes
Dirty engine oil or incorrect oil viscosity blocking VVT passages
Faulty VVT solenoid (oil control valve) on bank 2
Defective camshaft phaser stuck mechanically
Low engine oil pressure or wiring/connector issues to the solenoid

Mechanic's Tip
Before replacing expensive components, always double-check wiring and connections. 80% of all sensor faults are actually due to corroded contacts or broken wires.
