The engine control module (ECM) monitors the soot quantity in the particle filter using the filter's pressure sensor after a service regeneration. The code is set when the differential pressure over the filter exceeds a certain value, and it can only be set after a service regeneration. Several regenerations in a row may be needed to remove all the soot.

1Make sure the pressure sensor hoses are not swapped round, and that the connections are firmly seated
2Inspect the connections to the pressure sensor for contact resistance, looseness and oxidation
3Use a multimeter to check that the signal wire to the pressure sensor has no contact with supply voltage
4If the fault remains after these checks, have a workshop reset the adaptation and carry out a new service regeneration
5If the fault still remains after one more regeneration, have a workshop decide whether the particle filter needs replacing
