Technical Description
P0010 identifies a malfunction in the control circuit of the intake camshaft position actuator solenoid for Bank 1. The ECM (Engine Control Module) monitors the electrical integrity of the VVT (Variable Valve Timing) solenoid circuit. This is a logic-based fault: the ECM detects an open circuit, high resistance, or a short to ground/power when attempting to actuate the solenoid via a PWM signal. This prevents the mechanical adjustment of the camshaft timing relative to the crankshaft, affecting engine efficiency and emissions.
Possible Causes
Faulty VVT solenoid (internal open circuit or short)
Damaged wiring harness or corroded connectors to the solenoid
Oil sludge or contaminated oil causing mechanical resistance/clogging
Faulty Engine Control Module (ECM/PCM)

Mechanic's Tip
Before replacing expensive components, always double-check wiring and connections. 80% of all sensor faults are actually due to corroded contacts or broken wires.
