The engine control module watches what the RPM sensor sends. If the signal is missing, the control module treats this as a fault and the code is set. The fault may lie in the wiring, the connectors or the sensor itself.

Contact resistance in the connections

3Use a multimeter to check that the signal and ground leads are not broken, with the connectors disconnected
4Use a multimeter to check that the signal wire has no contact with ground or voltage, with the connectors disconnected
5If the fault remains, have a workshop check the speed sensor. Damage to the flywheel or carrier plate can also cause the fault
