The fault is intermittent, that is sporadic, and it does not need to be present right now. The engine control module compares the speed from the speed sensor with the speed from the camshaft sensor. If the speed sensor value is lower, this is treated as a fault.

2Look at the connectors at the speed sensor for loose contacts, oxidation and chafing
3Use a multimeter to check that the signal and ground leads are not broken, with the connectors disconnected

5If the fault remains, have a workshop check the speed sensor and the carrier plate at the flywheel
