Technical Description
DTC C0071 indicates an internal signal fault, calibration plausibility error, or communication disruption regarding the Steering Angle Sensor (SAS) in relation to the ABS/ESP control module. The sensor utilizes optical or magnetoresistive encoders to determine absolute steering angle, angular velocity, and direction. The ESP module correlates this data with yaw-rate and differential wheel speed inputs. If signal plausibility or communication exceeds predefined tolerance thresholds, C0071 is triggered, disabling ESP/traction intervention to prevent unintended braking.
Possible Causes
1. Förlorad grundkalibrering (nollpunktskalibrering) efter hjulinställning, batteribyte eller rattstångsarbete
2. Internt hårdvarufel/optisk nedsmutsning i rattvinkelsensorn/släpringen (Clockspring)
3. Mekanisk snedställning (kraftigt sned ratt vid körning rakt fram som överstiger rimlighetsgränsen)
4. Spänningsfall, glappkontakt eller korrosion i kontaktdon vid rattstångens styrmodul (SCCM)
5. CAN-bus kommunikationsstörningar eller skadat kablage i rattstången

Mechanic's Tip
Before replacing expensive components, always double-check wiring and connections. 80% of all sensor faults are actually due to corroded contacts or broken wires.
