Technical Description
P0003 indicates that the Engine Control Module (ECM) has detected a low voltage condition in the fuel volume regulator control circuit. This regulator is typically an actuator located on the high-pressure fuel pump. The ECM uses Pulse Width Modulation (PWM) to control the fuel volume entering the high-pressure stage. This code specifically triggers when the circuit signal is lower than expected, usually due to a short to ground in the wiring or a failed solenoid with low internal resistance.
Possible Causes
Short to ground in the fuel volume regulator wiring harness
Failing fuel volume regulator (internal shorted solenoid winding)
Damaged connector or terminal corrosion
Internal Engine Control Module (ECM) short circuit

Mechanic's Tip
Before replacing expensive components, always double-check wiring and connections. 80% of all sensor faults are actually due to corroded contacts or broken wires.
