Technical Description
P0020 is a generic OBD-II code indicating an electrical circuit malfunction in the Variable Valve Timing (VVT) or Variable Camshaft Timing (VCT) oil control valve (OCV) for Bank 2. Bank 2 is the bank of the engine that does not contain cylinder #1. The ECU monitors the feedback from the solenoid; if it detects an open circuit where current flow is missing when commanded, P0020 is set. This is a purely electrical fault (open circuit) and is typically not caused by mechanical timing issues, though it prevents the mechanical adjustment from occurring.
Possible Causes
Faulty camshaft position (CMP) actuator solenoid (Bank 2) – internal open circuit
Damaged or frayed wiring harness leading to the solenoid
Corroded or loose connector terminals at the OCV
Internal ECU failure or software glitch

Mechanic's Tip
Before replacing expensive components, always double-check wiring and connections. 80% of all sensor faults are actually due to corroded contacts or broken wires.
