Technical Description
P0027 occurs when the Engine Control Module (ECM) detects that the Variable Valve Timing (VVT) system for the exhaust valves on Bank 1 is not performing within specified parameters. The ECM uses a PWM signal to control the exhaust oil control valve (OCV). If the discrepancy between the commanded camshaft angle and the actual angle (measured via CMP and CKP sensors) exceeds a threshold, the code is stored. This system optimizes engine breathing and reduces NOx emissions; failure typically affects performance and fuel economy.
