Technical Description
P004F is set when the Engine Control Unit (ECU) detects an intermittent or erratic electrical signal in the boost control circuit 'B'. This circuit typically controls a solenoid or an electric actuator that regulates the wastegate or variable geometry (VNT/VGT) vanes. The 'intermittent' status indicates that the fault is not constant but occurs sporadically, often due to poor connections, corrosion, or internal component shorts triggered by thermal expansion or vibration. The ECU monitors circuit continuity and current draw; any deviation outside the calibration window for a specific duration will trigger the code and likely force the engine into 'Limp Home' mode to protect against overboost conditions.
Possible Causes
Poor connection or corrosion in the boost control solenoid connector.
Failing boost control solenoid (Solenoid B) with internal winding issues.
Damaged wiring harness (chafed insulation) causing short-to-ground during vibration.
Faulty Engine Control Unit (ECU) misinterpreting signals.

Mechanic's Tip
Before replacing expensive components, always double-check wiring and connections. 80% of all sensor faults are actually due to corroded contacts or broken wires.
