Technical Description
P050F is stored when the Engine Control Unit (ECU) detects that the brake booster vacuum pressure is below a predefined threshold during a cold start event. The monitoring occurs within the first seconds of engine operation to ensure braking performance. The ECU monitors the vacuum pressure sensor; typically, a failure is triggered if the vacuum does not reach approximately -60 to -80 kPa within a calibrated time window. This affects the Brake Assist system and may lead to a hard brake pedal feel until sufficient vacuum is restored by either engine intake or an auxiliary electric vacuum pump.
Possible Causes
Leakage in vacuum hoses or check valve between intake/pump and brake booster
Faulty brake vacuum pressure sensor
Failing auxiliary electric vacuum pump (if equipped)
Internal internal leak in the brake booster diaphragm

Mechanic's Tip
Before replacing expensive components, always double-check wiring and connections. 80% of all sensor faults are actually due to corroded contacts or broken wires.
