Technical Description
P051D is an OBD-II generic code that indicates the Engine Control Module (ECM) has detected a voltage signal from the crankcase pressure sensor circuit that is higher than the calibrated limit. Typically, this occurs when the signal voltage exceeds 4.8V on a 5V reference circuit. This could be caused by an open circuit in the ground wire, a short to voltage on the signal wire, or a failed sensor. The sensor monitors internal engine pressure to manage the Positive Crankcase Ventilation (PCV) system and ensure structural integrity of engine seals.
Possible Causes
Faulty crankcase pressure sensor (internal electrical failure)
Open circuit in the signal or ground wire
Signal wire shorted to voltage (5V or 12V)
Severely clogged PCV system causing extreme pressure spikes
Internal ECM/ECU fault

Mechanic's Tip
Before replacing expensive components, always double-check wiring and connections. 80% of all sensor faults are actually due to corroded contacts or broken wires.
