Technical Description
P051F is stored when the Engine Control Unit (ECU) detects that the signal from the Crankcase Pressure Sensor is outside of the expected range or shows poor performance relative to other sensors (like MAP or BARO). The sensor monitors internal engine pressure to ensure the Positive Crankcase Ventilation (PCV) system is operating correctly. If the pressure deviates from the mapped values—indicating a blockage, a disconnection, or a faulty sensor—the ECU triggers the MIL. This is crucial for emissions compliance and preventing oil leaks due to excessive internal pressure.
Possible Causes
Clogged PCV hose or faulty PCV valve
Failed Crankcase Pressure Sensor
Wiring harness issues or corroded connector pins
Excessive engine blow-by exceeding the system's capacity

Mechanic's Tip
Before replacing expensive components, always double-check wiring and connections. 80% of all sensor faults are actually due to corroded contacts or broken wires.
