Technical Description
P0527 is stored when the Engine Control Module (ECM) detects a signal from the fan speed sensor that is inconsistent or outside the expected parameters relative to the requested fan duty cycle. The system typically uses a Hall-effect sensor within the fan clutch (electro-viscous) to send a pulse-frequency signal back to the ECM. If the signal suggests the fan is rotating too fast, too slow, or not at all under specific operating conditions, the code is triggered. This impacts engine thermal management and A/C efficiency.
Possible Causes
Faulty fan clutch with integrated speed sensor (Electronic Viscous Clutch)
Damaged wiring harness or corrosion in the fan connector
Damaged fan blades or mechanical obstruction preventing rotation
Internal ECM short circuit or software fault

Mechanic's Tip
Before replacing expensive components, always double-check wiring and connections. 80% of all sensor faults are actually due to corroded contacts or broken wires.
