Technical Description
P0534 is set when the Engine Control Module (ECM) or Powertrain Control Module (PCM) detects an abnormal drop in refrigerant pressure within the Air Conditioning (A/C) system. The ECM monitors pressure via the A/C pressure sensor. If the pressure falls below a calibrated threshold (typically monitoring voltage signals reflecting low PSI/Bar), the ECM will disable the A/C compressor clutch to protect the internal components from damage due to lack of lubrication. This code often involves cross-communication between the ECM and the HVAC module via the CAN bus.
Possible Causes
Low refrigerant charge due to physical leak (condenser, hoses, evaporator)
Faulty A/C pressure sensor (sending incorrect voltage signal)
Damaged wiring or corrosion in the sensor connector
Faulty expansion valve or receiver-drier causing pressure drop issues

Mechanic's Tip
Before replacing expensive components, always double-check wiring and connections. 80% of all sensor faults are actually due to corroded contacts or broken wires.
