Technical Description
The Engine Control Module (ECM) monitors the signal from the Exhaust Gas Temperature (EGT) sensor for Bank 2, Sensor 1. This sensor is typically located before the turbocharger or catalytic converter on the bank of the engine that does not contain cylinder #1. P0547 is triggered when the ECM detects a voltage signal that is outside the predetermined operating range, indicating an electrical fault such as an open circuit, short to ground, or short to voltage. The sensor is a thermistor used to monitor exhaust temperatures to prevent component damage and manage emissions systems.
Possible Causes
Faulty Exhaust Gas Temperature (EGT) sensor (internal open circuit)
Damaged wiring harness or melted insulation due to contact with exhaust components
Corroded or loose terminals in the sensor connector
Faulty ECM software or internal ECM hardware failure

Mechanic's Tip
Before replacing expensive components, always double-check wiring and connections. 80% of all sensor faults are actually due to corroded contacts or broken wires.
