Technical Description
P055F is a generic OBD-II diagnostic trouble code indicating that the Engine Control Module (ECM) has detected an oil pressure signal that is out of the calibrated range (high). In modern engines with variable displacement oil pumps, the ECM monitors actual oil pressure against a commanded setpoint. If the pressure remains significantly higher than requested for a predetermined period, this code is stored. This can be caused by a stuck oil pressure control solenoid, a restricted oil passage, or a failing pressure sensor providing incorrect high-voltage feedback.
Possible Causes
Faulty oil pressure control solenoid stuck in the closed position
Defective engine oil pressure sensor (providing incorrect voltage feedback)
Wiring harness issue, such as short to voltage on the signal circuit
Physical blockage in the oil galleries or incorrect engine oil viscosity
Mechanical internal failure of the variable displacement oil pump

Mechanic's Tip
Before replacing expensive components, always double-check wiring and connections. 80% of all sensor faults are actually due to corroded contacts or broken wires.
