Technical Description
P0565 signals that the Engine Control Module (ECM) or Body Control Module (BCM) has detected an invalid voltage signal from the cruise control 'ON' switch circuit. Most modern cruise control systems use a resistive ladder network where each button press results in a specific voltage drop. If the ECM perceives a voltage that is inconsistent with factory specifications (e.g., stuck button, open circuit, or short to voltage), the diagnostic routine will flag P0565 and disable the cruise control system for safety reasons.
Possible Causes
Faulty cruise control switch (internal contact failure or stuck button)
Damaged clockspring (spiral cable) behind the steering wheel causing intermittent open circuits
Wiring issues, such as short to ground, short to power, or corroded connectors
Faulty Steering Wheel Module (SWM) or ECM software glitch

Mechanic's Tip
Before replacing expensive components, always double-check wiring and connections. 80% of all sensor faults are actually due to corroded contacts or broken wires.
