Technical Description
P0568 indicates that the Engine Control Module (ECM) has detected an implausible signal or an out-of-range voltage from the cruise control 'SET' switch. Most modern systems use a resistive ladder network where each button press results in a specific voltage drop. If the ECM sees a voltage that does not correspond to a valid command, or if the 'SET' signal is stuck high/low, the code is stored. This is often caused by a faulty switch, a failed clock spring, or high resistance in the CAN-bus or dedicated signal wiring.
Possible Causes
Faulty cruise control switch (steering wheel buttons)
Failed clock spring (spiral cable)
Corrosion or loose pins in the steering column wiring harness
Faulty Engine Control Module (ECM) or software glitch

Mechanic's Tip
Before replacing expensive components, always double-check wiring and connections. 80% of all sensor faults are actually due to corroded contacts or broken wires.
