Technical Description
Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) P057A is stored when the Engine Control Module (ECM) or Powertrain Control Module (PCM) detects an electrical malfunction or an out-of-range signal from the brake pedal position sensor circuit specifically associated with the cruise control system. This sensor monitors the exact position of the brake pedal to safely disengage cruise control. If the signal voltage deviates from the calibrated range (typically monitored between 0.5V and 4.5V), the ECM will disable the speed control system as a safety protocol via CAN-bus logic to ensure the vehicle can be decelerated reliably.
Possible Causes
Faulty brake pedal position sensor (potentiometer or Hall effect sensor)
Loose connection or corrosion in the sensor connector
Damaged wiring harness (chafing against the steering column or pedal assembly)
Misadjusted brake pedal geometry or internal ECM fault

Mechanic's Tip
Before replacing expensive components, always double-check wiring and connections. 80% of all sensor faults are actually due to corroded contacts or broken wires.
