What does this fault code mean?
The signal from the left rear wheel speed sensor is faulty. The ABS control module cannot rely on the value, and although the fault is less clear-cut than a complete loss of signal, ABS, traction control and brake force distribution are affected. Connectors or wiring are most often behind the fault. The equivalent code for the right rear wheel is ABS-0042.
Possible causes
- Contact resistance in the connections
- Loose connection in the wiring or its joints
- Wiring routed too close to a source of electrical interference
- Damaged insulation on the cables
What you can do
- 1Read the code, clear it and road test to see whether it returns
- 2Check the connectors at the left rear wheel sensor and at the ABS control module for contact resistance and oxidation
- 3Check the connectors and the cable insulation for damage
- 4Check that the sensor wiring is not routed too close to sources of electrical interference
- 5If the fault remains, have a workshop with diagnostic equipment check the sensor and the wiring
- 6ABS is safety-critical – do not work on the brake system yourself, have a workshop do it
Symptoms you may notice4
