What does this fault code mean?
The stop lamp switch tells the ABS control module that you are braking, and it also disengages the extra traction function during braking. When the module detects that the signal from the switch is wrong, the extra traction function is switched off and the code is set. Other functions are normally not affected.
Possible causes
- Contact resistance or oxidation in the connectors
- Open circuit in the wire to the stop lamp switch
- Wires shorted to ground or supply voltage
- Faulty stop lamp switch
What you can do
- 1Confirm that the brake lights work and that no fuse has blown
- 2Check the connector at the stop lamp switch for oxidation and contact resistance
- 3Follow the wire from the stop lamp switch and look for an open circuit, a short to ground or a short to supply voltage
- 4Check the ABS control module connector for contact resistance and oxidation
- 5Remedy as needed and road test; if the fault remains, have a workshop trace the circuit
- 6ABS is safety-critical – do not work on the brake electrical system yourself, have a workshop do it
