What does this fault code mean?
The code shows that the front brake discs have become too hot, for example after long or heavy braking or after anti-spin control has been active for too long. The ABS function is normally not affected, but traction control may be temporarily blocked until the brakes have cooled.
Possible causes
- Anti-spin control has been active for too long
- The brakes have been used so much that the discs have overheated
- Long or heavy operation of the extra traction function, on cars that have it only
What you can do
- 1Let the brakes cool down completely before checking them
- 2Remove the front wheels and carry out a visual inspection of the brake calipers, pads and discs
- 3Look for heat damage such as discolouration, cracks or warped discs, and replace any damaged parts
- 4Check that the brake calipers are not sticking, since a sticking caliper causes overheating
- 5Brakes are safety-critical – have a workshop carry out all work on the brakes and the ABS system
Symptoms you may notice4
- ABS warning lamp lit
- Traction control warning lamp lit
- Traction control does not work
- The extra traction function does not work on cars that have it
What the fault can affect3
- The ABS function is not affected
- Traction control is blocked
- The extra traction function is blocked on cars that have it
