Volvo models this fault code applies to
This fault code has different meanings depending on model, model year or engine. Select the meaning that applies to your car.
Applies to the following models:
7 modelsC70 Cabriolet (1998–2005), C70 Coupé (1998–2002), S60 (2001–2009), S70 (1997–2000), S80 (1999–2006), V70 (1997–2000), V70 XC (1998–2000)
What does this fault code mean?
On some occasions the ABS control module has not received the supply from its main relay function to the valves. Without that supply the valves cannot be controlled and ABS is blocked. The fault is intermittent. Because the vehicle speed signal from the ABS module is also lost, the instrument cluster, central electronic module and gearbox can be affected.
Possible causes
- Contact resistance in the connections
- Blown fuse in the supply to the valves
- Faulty ABS control module
- Intermittent open circuit in the wires between the fuse and the module
What you can do
- 1Check the wires between the fuse in the engine bay relay and fuse box and the module for intermittent open circuits
- 2Check that the fuses in the supply are intact
- 3Check the ABS control module connector for contact resistance and oxidation
- 4If the fault remains, have a workshop with diagnostic equipment trace the supply; replace the module only once the wiring has been investigated
- 5ABS is safety-critical – do not work on the ABS control module or the brake system yourself, have a workshop do it
Symptoms you may notice4
- ABS warning lamp lit
- Traction control warning lamp lit
- Brake system warning lamp lit
- Traction control does not work
What the fault can affect3
- ABS and traction control are blocked
- The central electronic module and the automatic gearbox lose their speed input
- No vehicle speed signal to the instrument cluster
