What does this fault code mean?
The ABS control module has registered that it cannot communicate correctly over the data network (CAN). Communication can be disturbed by broken or shorted signal wires, connector problems or a faulty module. During a communication fault the ABS module cannot be reached, so the code can only be read if the fault is intermittent.
Possible causes
- Contact resistance in the connections
- Open circuit in one or both signal wires
- One or both signal wires shorted to ground, supply voltage or each other
- Interference on the wires
- Faulty ABS control module
What you can do
- 1Check that the communication wires between the control modules are not routed too close to sources of electrical interference such as electric motors and ignition cables
- 2Check the communication wires between the control modules for intermittent open circuits
- 3Remedy as necessary and clear the code
- 4If the fault remains, have a workshop with diagnostic equipment check the wiring and the ABS control module
- 5ABS is safety-critical – do not work on the ABS control module or the brake system yourself, have a workshop do it
Symptoms you may notice4
- ABS warning lamp lit
- Traction control warning lamp lit
- Brake system warning lamp lit
- Traction control does not work
What the fault can affect2
- Communication on the data network is blocked
- Traction control function is blocked
