What does this fault code mean?
Communication between the ABS control module and the other control modules on the data network (CAN) has been disturbed or lost. The code is often stored together with a code in the central electronic module (CEM), because they share the same network. The fault should therefore be investigated across the whole data network, not only in the ABS module.
Possible causes
- Open circuit in the communication wires
- Short circuit in the communication wires
- Contact resistance in the connections
- Faulty ABS control module
What you can do
- 1Check that the communication wires to the ABS module are not broken or chafed
- 2Read the code in the central electronic module and in the other control modules and deal with those first
- 3Check the connectors at the ABS module for contact resistance and oxidation
- 4Clear the code and check whether it returns
- 5If the fault remains, have a workshop with diagnostic equipment trace the data network
- 6ABS is safety-critical – do not work on the ABS control module or the brake system yourself, have a workshop do it
Symptoms you may notice3
- ABS warning lamp lit
- Traction control warning lamp lit
- Brake system warning lamp lit
What the fault can affect2
- ABS and traction control may be blocked
- Communication on the data network is blocked
