What does this fault code mean?
The ABS control module is programmed at the factory for several car models and configures itself at the first ignition cycle, using car configuration data from the central electronic module (CEM). The code is set if the configuration takes too long, for example when the data from the CEM arrives late. Communication faults may be behind it.
Possible causes
- Contact resistance or oxidation in the connectors
- Open circuit in the communication wires
- Faulty central electronic module (CEM)
What you can do
- 1Check the central electronic module (CEM) first, since an incorrectly configured CEM can affect the ABS module's configuration
- 2Read and clear any codes in the CEM, and trace those before the ABS module
- 3Reset and configure the ABS module according to the workshop routine, with the correct car model selected
- 4Afterwards, check that the configuration is correct for the car
- 5ABS is safety-critical – do not work on the ABS module's configuration yourself, have a workshop do it
Symptoms you may notice4

- Stability control is not working
- ABS warning lamp lit
