What does this fault code mean?
The lateral acceleration sensor tells the ABS control module how strong the car's sideways acceleration is. The code applies only to cars with stability control. At some point the module received a faulty signal, and the fault is intermittent, meaning temporary. While it lasts, anti-spin and the stability function are blocked.
Possible causes
- Open circuit in the wiring
- Wiring shorted to ground or supply voltage
- Sensor incorrectly fitted
- Faulty sensor or, less commonly, a faulty control module
What you can do
- 1Check that the sensor is correctly fitted and firmly secured in its bracket
- 2Check the connector at the control module and at the lateral acceleration sensor for contact resistance and oxidation
- 3Follow the wire to the sensor and look for intermittent open circuits or shorts to ground or supply voltage
- 4Remedy as necessary, clear the code and road test
- 5ABS and stability control are safety-critical – do not work on the ABS module or the brake system yourself, have a workshop do it
Symptoms you may notice3
- Anti-spin does not work
- Stability function is absent
- Anti-spin warning lamp lit
What the fault can affect2
- Anti-spin function is blocked
- Stability function is blocked
