What does this fault code mean?
The lateral acceleration sensor gives the ABS control module a reading of the car's sideways acceleration. This code applies only to cars with stability control. The module has found that the signal is unreasonable, which can come from an incorrectly fitted sensor, a wiring fault or a faulty sensor. Anti-spin and the stability function are blocked meanwhile.
Possible causes
- Open circuit in the wiring
- Wiring shorted to ground or supply voltage
- Sensor incorrectly fitted
- Faulty lateral acceleration sensor or, less commonly, a faulty control module
What you can do
- 1Check that the connectors at the ABS module and the lateral acceleration sensor are secure and free from oxidation
- 2Check that the sensor is correctly fitted and that its bracket is firmly secured
- 3Check the wiring for damage, chafing and pinched sections, and for shorts to ground or supply voltage
- 4Remedy as necessary, road test and clear the code
- 5If the fault remains, have a workshop with diagnostic equipment read the sensor value and check the signal
- 6ABS and stability control are safety-critical – do not work on the ABS module or the brake system yourself, have a workshop do it
Symptoms you may notice3
- Anti-spin does not work
- Stability function is absent
- Anti-spin warning lamp lit
What the fault can affect2
- Anti-spin function is blocked
- Stability function is blocked
