What does this fault code mean?
The additive dosing module (ADM) has detected an internal fault in itself. The ADM is fitted to diesel cars with a particulate filter and doses an additive into the fuel that helps the soot in the filter burn off more easily during regeneration.
Possible causes
- Internal fault in the additive dosing module (ADM)
- A one-off disturbance as the module started up, if the fault has only occurred once
What you can do
- 1Clear the code and see whether it returns – a single intermittent fault can be a temporary disturbance
- 2Check that the battery is in good condition, as low voltage at start-up can cause false internal faults
- 3If the fault returns or is permanent, the additive dosing module needs replacing
- 4Have the particulate filter checked if the car has been driven with the fault for a long time
Symptoms you may notice2
- Message in the information display
- Engine (emissions) warning lamp on
What the fault can affect1
- No immediate effect on driving, but without additive the particulate filter is harder to regenerate and may eventually block
General guidance for car owners. Diagnosis on the car can point to a different cause.
