ADM-U000188 - High Speed CAN Communication Bus. Bus Signal / Message Failures. Bus off
System
Additive Dosing Module (ADM)
Volvo models this fault code applies to
Applies to the following models:
2 modelsS80 (2007–), V70 (2008–)
Show models by year and engine (2)
What does this fault code mean?
The additive dosing module (ADM) sits on the high-speed CAN network and has registered a serious disturbance there. It has therefore switched off its communication (bus-off) and will not restart until the power supply is cut and reconnected. In practice the fault is only readable when it is intermittent.
Possible causes
- Short circuit between the CAN wires
- Open circuit in one of the CAN wires
- Internal fault in the control module
- Internal fault in another control module on the same part of the CAN network
What you can do
- 1Read the codes in the central electronic module (CEM) first, since it monitors the voltage on the CAN wires
- 2Check the battery and its terminals so the voltage is stable
- 3With diagnostic equipment check the CAN network for breaks and shorts
- 4Do not replace the central electronic module for a CAN fault unless fault-finding shows it is faulty
- 5Clear the codes after the repair and check that they do not return
Symptoms you may notice1
- No clear symptoms for the driver
What the fault can affect2
- The module switches its communication off (bus-off)
- It stays off until the power supply is cut, then tries to communicate again at the next power-up
