What does this fault code mean?
The additive dosing module (ADM) has lost contact with the central electronic module (CEM). This is a general fault code that does not say which type of fault it is. It can only be read out if the fault is intermittent, because the module cannot communicate while the fault is active. The fault may lie in the data network or in the CEM.
Possible causes
- Short circuit between the CAN wires
- Open circuit in one of the CAN wires
- Internal fault in the control module
- Internal fault in another control module on the same part of the CAN network
What you can do
- 1Read the codes in the central electronic module (CEM) first, since the CEM monitors the voltage on the CAN wires
- 2Check the battery and its terminals so the voltage is stable
- 3With diagnostic equipment check the data network and the connectors between the modules
- 4Do not replace the CEM for a CAN fault unless fault-finding shows an internal fault
- 5Clear the code once the cause is fixed and check that it does not return
Symptoms you may notice1
- No clear symptoms for the driver
What the fault can affect2
- The module switches its communication off (bus-off)
- It stays off until the power supply is cut
