Volvo models this fault code applies to
This fault code has different meanings depending on model, model year or engine. Select the meaning that applies to your car.
Applies to the following models:
4 modelsS60 (2001–2009), S80 (1999–2006), V70 (2000–2008), V70 XC / XC70 (2001–2007)
What does this fault code mean?
The audio control module (AUM) has found that communication on the CAN network, the car's data link, is disturbed, and it has shut itself down. Because the module cannot communicate while the fault is active, the code can only be read if the fault is intermittent. The cause may lie in the network or in another control module.
Possible causes
- Short circuit between the CAN wires
- Open circuit in one of the CAN wires
- Internal fault in the audio control module (AUM)
- Internal fault in another control module on the same part of the CAN network
What you can do
- 1Find out which codes are stored in which modules, as this makes fault-finding much easier
- 2If the central electronic module (CEM) holds codes for lost communication, deal with those first
- 3Measure the CAN network with diagnostic equipment to find which module is sending faulty messages
- 4After repair, check that the fault has been cleared
Symptoms you may notice3
- The dimmer control does not work
- The steering wheel radio buttons do not work
- The mute during phone calls does not work
What the fault can affect2
- The audio control module stays switched off until the power supply is interrupted
- When power is reconnected, the module tries to communicate again
