What does this fault code mean?
The brake control module (BCM) has registered an internal problem, for example interference or an open circuit in the circuit to the hydraulic valves. Interference may have affected the module's calculations, so the code can be set even when the fault is not visible right now.
Possible causes
- Electrical interference that has affected the module's calculations
- Fault inside the brake control module (BCM)
What you can do
- 1Read the codes and deal with any other stored codes first, as they may share the same cause
- 2Clear the code and check whether it returns; if it does not come back, no further action is needed
- 3Check the brake control module connector for contact resistance and oxidation, and make sure the wiring is not close to interference sources such as mobile phones
- 4If the fault remains as permanent, have a workshop replace the brake control module
- 5The brake system is safety critical: drive carefully until the fault is fixed, as ABS and stability control are out of action
Symptoms you may notice5
- General warning lamp on
- ABS warning lamp on
- The brake circuit does not work and the warning lamp comes on
- ABS, traction control, stability and anti-skid do not work
- Traction control does not work
What the fault can affect3
- ABS is disabled
- Electronic brake force distribution (EBD), traction control, stability control and brake assist are disabled
- Active yaw control (AYC) is disabled
