What does this fault code mean?
The brake control module (BCM) has detected an internal fault. The fault may be caused by interference that has affected the module's calculations, or by a genuine fault in the module itself.
Possible causes
- Electrical interference that has affected the module's calculations
- Fault inside the brake control module (BCM)
What you can do
- 1Read the codes and deal with any other stored codes in the other modules first
- 2Have a workshop replace the brake control module and program or calibrate it, as a new unit is supplied without software and must be calibrated after fitting
- 3After fitting, check that ABS, traction control and stability control work
- 4The brake system is safety critical: do not work on the brake control module yourself
Symptoms you may notice5
- General warning lamp on
- ABS warning lamp on
- The brake circuit does not work and the warning lamp comes on
- ABS, traction control, stability and anti-skid do not work
- Traction control does not work
What the fault can affect3
- ABS is disabled
- Electronic brake force distribution (EBD), traction control, stability control and brake assist are disabled
- Active yaw control (AYC) is disabled
