What does this fault code mean?
Relevant only on four-wheel-drive cars that have the TRACS traction system. The brake control module (BCM) compares the signal from the brake light switch with the signal from the pedal position sensor. If either signal is faulty, the code is set. The fault mainly affects traction control and may be due to the wiring or to one of the sensors.
Possible causes
- Signal wire to the brake light switch shorted to ground or supply voltage
- Defective brake light switch
- Defective pedal position sensor
What you can do
- 1If the ECM or CEM holds codes for the brake pedal sensor or brake light switch, deal with those first
- 2Check the connectors at the brake control module, the brake light switch and the pedal position sensor for contact resistance and oxidation
- 3Read the brake light switch status and the pedal position with diagnostic equipment while the brake pedal is pressed and released
- 4The brake system is safety critical: have a workshop repair the fault, and do not work on the brake pedal sensors or the brake light switch yourself
Symptoms you may notice1
- Traction control does not work
What the fault can affect1
- Traction control (TC) is disabled
