What does this fault code mean?
At the factory the brake control module (BCM) receives software that suits several car models. At the first ignition cycle it reads the car's settings from the central electronic module (CEM) and adapts itself to the car's model and equipment. The fault occurs if a module from another model or software for another model has been fitted or downloaded.
Possible causes
- A brake control module from another car model has been fitted
- A central electronic module (CEM) from another car model has been fitted
- Software for another model or brake system type has been downloaded to the brake control module
What you can do
- 1Check whether codes are stored in the central electronic module (CEM); deal with any there first, as an incorrectly configured CEM can affect the brake control module
- 2Check that the correct brake control module and central electronic module are fitted to the car
- 3Have a workshop read the software version and check that it matches the car's configuration; if it does not, the correct software must be downloaded
- 4The brake system is safety critical: do not work on the brake control module or its software yourself, and have a workshop repair the fault
Symptoms you may notice5
- Anti-spin and stability function do not work
- Anti-skid does not work
- Information lamp on
- Traction control does not work
- General warning lamp on in newer cars
What the fault can affect2
- Traction control and stability control are disabled
- Active yaw control (AYC) is disabled
General guidance for car owners. Diagnosis on the car can point to a different cause.
