What does this fault code mean?
The brake control module (BCM) is not getting the information it needs from the engine control module (ECM) over the CAN network. The fault may lie in the wiring between the modules or in the engine management system.
Possible causes
- Open circuit or short on the CAN wire
- Fault in the engine management system
What you can do
- 1Read the codes in the engine control module and the central electronic module and fault-find those first
- 2Check that the wiring between the modules is not routed too close to sources of interference such as mobile phones
- 3Check the communication and the CAN wiring with diagnostic equipment
- 4The brake system is safety critical: do not work on the brake control module yourself, and have a workshop repair the fault
Symptoms you may notice4
- Anti-spin does not work
- Stability function does not work
- Anti-skid does not work
- General yellow warning lamp on in newer cars
What the fault can affect1
- Traction control (TC), stability control (SC) and active yaw control (AYC) are disabled
General guidance for car owners. Diagnosis on the car can point to a different cause.
