What does this fault code mean?
The pedal position sensor tells the brake control module how far the brake pedal is pressed and how quickly. The module uses this to activate active brake assist during an emergency stop. The code is set when the sensor signal is faulty.
Possible causes
- Open circuit in the signal or supply wire
- Wires shorted to ground or supply voltage
- Incorrectly fitted or damaged sensor
- Fault inside the brake control module (BCM)
What you can do
- 1Check the connectors at the brake control module and the pedal position sensor for contact resistance and oxidation
- 2Read the pedal sensor position and signal with diagnostic equipment while the pedal is pressed and released
- 3Check the wiring between the pedal position sensor and the brake control module for open circuits and short circuits
- 4The brake system is safety critical: do not work on the brake pedal sensor yourself, and have a workshop repair the fault
Symptoms you may notice2
- General warning lamp on
- Traction control does not work
What the fault can affect2
- Active brake assist (BA) is disabled
- Traction control on the rear wheels is lost on cars with TRACS, but front-wheel control still works
General guidance for car owners. Diagnosis on the car can point to a different cause.
