What does this fault code mean?
The steering wheel module (SWM) sends steering angle sensor signals onto the CAN network, and the brake control module compares them with a calculated reference value. The reference is worked out from wheel speed signals, yaw rate and sideways acceleration. The code is set when the reference signal is outside its limit, which may come from wheel alignment or from the sensor.
Possible causes
- Incorrect front axle alignment
- Steering angle sensor incorrectly fitted
- Damaged steering angle sensor
What you can do
- 1Check whether codes are stored for the wheel sensors, the steering module or the stability sensor, and fault-find those first
- 2Have a workshop check and, if needed, adjust the front axle alignment before checking the steering angle
- 3Check that the steering angle sensor is correctly fitted and undamaged
- 4The brake system is safety critical: drive carefully until the fault is fixed, and do not work on the stability system yourself
Symptoms you may notice3
- Information lamp on
- Traction control does not work
- Stability function does not work
What the fault can affect1
- Traction control (TC), stability control (SC) and active yaw control (AYC) are disabled
