What does this fault code mean?

The steering angle sensor module (SAS) is initialised when the steering wheel is turned to either side after the car is started. If the brake control module finds that SAS has not been initialised in time, and the car has also been driven for a while, the code is set. This can happen if the driver has driven straight ahead for a long time and switched off the ignition before initialisation.

    Possible causes

    • The driver drove straight ahead for a long time after starting and then switched off the ignition, so SAS was not initialised
    • Internal fault in the steering angle sensor (SAS)

    What you can do

    1. 1Check whether the car was recently driven straight ahead for a long time without the steering wheel being turned, and turn the wheel to either side after starting to initialise SAS
    2. 2Clear the code and check whether it returns
    3. 3If the fault remains, have a workshop read the codes in SAS with diagnostic equipment
    4. 4The brake system is safety critical: do not replace the brake control module for this code, and drive carefully until the fault is fixed

    Symptoms you may notice3

    • Anti-spin warning lamp on
    • General yellow warning lamp on
    • Anti-skid does not work

    What the fault can affect1

    • Active yaw control (AYC) is disabled

General guidance for car owners. Diagnosis on the car can point to a different cause.
