What does this fault code mean?
The brake control module has an internal memory fault. More precisely, initialisation of the CAN controller fails when the module is powered up, and then CAN communication is shut down.
Possible causes
- Fault inside the brake control module (BCM)
What you can do
- 1Read the codes in the other control modules and deal with any other codes first
- 2Check that the connector at the brake control module is secure and free from oxidation
- 3If the code has permanent status, a workshop should replace the brake control module, and the new unit must be programmed
- 4The brake system is safety critical: do not work on the brake control module yourself, and drive carefully until the fault is fixed
Symptoms you may notice5
- ABS warning lamp on
- General warning lamp on
- Traction control does not work
- Stability function does not work
- Anti-skid does not work
What the fault can affect2
- ABS, traction control, stability control and active yaw control (AYC) are disabled
- Communication with the brake control module is cut off entirely
