What does this fault code mean?

The brake control module has twelve valve coils for the valves in the hydraulic unit and has registered an electrical fault in the coil for control channel A, valve 2. The fault may be a value that is too low or too high in the signal. The valves control brake pressure for ABS, stability and traction control, and the fault is often due to an internal disturbance in the module.

    Possible causes

    • Fault inside the brake control module (BCM)

    What you can do

    1. 1Activate the hydraulic unit valves with diagnostic equipment; if no ticking sound is heard from the valves, the module has an internal fault
    2. 2Clear the code and road test; if it returns, a workshop should replace the brake control module
    3. 3After replacement, programming and calibration are needed, as a new module is supplied without software
    4. 4The brake system is safety critical: do not work on the brake control module or hydraulic unit yourself, and drive carefully until the fault is fixed

    Symptoms you may notice5

    • General warning lamp on
    • The brake circuit does not work and the warning lamp comes on
    • Anti-spin, stability and anti-skid do not work
    • Traction control does not work
    • Information lamp on

    What the fault can affect3

    • ABS is disabled
    • Traction control, stability control and active yaw control (AYC) are disabled
    • Electronic brake force distribution (EBD) and brake assist are disabled

General guidance for car owners. Diagnosis on the car can point to a different cause.
