BCM-C002012 - ABS Pump Motor Control. General Electrical Failures. Circuit short to battery
System
Brake Control Module (BCM)
Volvo models this fault code applies to
Applies to the following models:
1 modelV60 (2011–)
Show models by year and engine (2)
What does this fault code mean?
On the V60, the brake control module (BCM) has detected a short to supply voltage in the circuit to the ABS pump motor. The pump motor builds the brake pressure needed for ABS, stability control and brake assistance. The fault may lie in the wire, which has come into contact with the battery's positive supply, or in the pump motor itself.
Possible causes
- Damaged pump motor
- Wire to the pump motor shorted to battery voltage, for example through chafing
- Internal fault in the brake control module
What you can do
- 1Read and note the code, clear it and road test the car to see whether it returns
- 2Check the pump motor fuse in the engine bay relay and fuse box. If it has failed, the circuit should be checked before a new fuse is fitted
- 3Check that the wire to the pump motor is not chafed or pinched, especially where it could touch anything carrying live voltage
- 4With diagnostic equipment activate the pump motor and check that it starts and runs normally
- 5If the pump motor does not start, the hydraulic unit is probably damaged and needs replacing by a workshop
- 6Do not work on the brake hydraulic unit or pump motor yourself; leave this to a workshop. Drive carefully until the fault is fixed
Symptoms you may notice5
- Front monitoring and City Safety do not work
- Cruise control will not engage
- ABS warning shows a fault or no indication
- Traction control and stability function do not work
- Brake pedal requires more force than normal
What the fault can affect2
- Active yaw control (AYC) is blocked
- ABS, traction control, stability control and brake assistance can be disabled
