What does this fault code mean?
The brake control module (BCM) has commanded the ABS pump motor but found that it does not start or does not run as it should, interpreted as the pump being stuck. The pump motor builds the brake pressure needed for ABS and stability control.
Possible causes
- Contact resistance in the connections to the pump motor
- Wrong fuse for the pump motor
- Open circuit in the supply or ground wire to the pump motor
- Damaged or seized pump motor
- Faulty brake control module (uncommon)
What you can do
- 1Read and note the code, clear it and road test the car to see whether it returns
- 2Check the pump motor fuse and that the correct fuse is fitted
- 3Check that the connectors at the brake control module and the pump motor are secure and free from oxidation
- 4With diagnostic equipment activate the pump motor and check that it starts and runs normally
- 5If the pump motor does not start, the hydraulic unit normally needs replacing by a workshop
- 6The braking system is safety critical: do not work on the pump motor or hydraulic unit yourself, and drive carefully until the fault is fixed
Symptoms you may notice5
- General warning lamp and ABS warning lamp on
- ABS, traction control and stability function do not work
- Adaptive cruise control and collision warning do not work
- Electronic parking brake has reduced function
- Front monitoring and City Safety do not work
What the fault can affect2
- ABS, traction control, stability control and brake assistance are blocked
- Active yaw control (AYC) is blocked
