What does this fault code mean?
The brake control module (BCM) controls a pre-pressure valve in the brake booster when adaptive cruise control is active. The valve admits air into the booster so that brake pressure rises automatically. If the actual brake pressure does not match the requested pressure, the module has compared the signals and found a fault.
Possible causes
- Incorrect vacuum pressure
- Damaged pre-pressure valve
- Internal fault in the brake control module
What you can do
- 1Read and note the code, clear it and road test the car to see whether it returns
- 2Check the vacuum system: with the engine off the brake pedal should feel firm, and when the engine is started with the pedal pressed it should give way slightly
- 3Activate the pre-pressure valve with diagnostic equipment and check that it responds
- 4If the code returns after these checks, the brake booster or brake control module may need replacing by a workshop
- 5The braking system is safety critical: do not work on the brake booster yourself; leave this to a workshop
Symptoms you may notice2
- Adaptive cruise control does not work
- Front monitoring and active safety do not work
General guidance for car owners. Diagnosis on the car can point to a different cause.
